National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend 2026

  • Saturday, October 3, 2026
  • 9:00 AM
  • National Fire Academy, Emmitsburg, MD

The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend 2026 is America's most solemn and sacred tribute to the men and women of the fire service who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Held the first weekend of October each year at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland — home of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial — this weekend brings together the families of fallen firefighters, fire service colleagues, and community supporters from across the nation for a memorial experience that honors the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of every firefighter whose name is added to the memorial that year. The 2026 Memorial Weekend begins Friday with a candlelight ceremony and continues through Sunday with the formal addition of new names to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial, the reading of each fallen firefighter's name, a keynote address from the USFA Administrator or a distinguished fire service leader, and a powerful benediction that leaves no dry eye on the grounds. Survivor family members and close colleagues of the fallen receive dedicated support, hospitality, and honor throughout the weekend from the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation's compassionate staff and volunteers. Hundreds of fire departments send honor guards and delegations to stand in solidarity with grieving families and to carry the names of their fallen back home. The public is invited and encouraged to attend and stand witness to this sacred rite of our fire service community. We honor them not just with words, but with our presence. The fire never dies. Neither does their memory.
