2026 Spring Seminar – Illinois Fire & Police Commissioners

  • Saturday, May 2, 2026
  • 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Bloomington-Normal Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, Bloomington, IL

The Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners Association (IFPCA) Spring Seminar 2026 brings together fire and police commissioners, board members, HR professionals, and public safety officials from across Illinois for a full day of focused professional development at the Bloomington-Normal Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.

This seminar is designed specifically for those who govern and oversee fire and police departments — a critical but often underserved group in the public safety training ecosystem. Commissioners carry enormous responsibility: hiring decisions, policy development, disciplinary procedures, and ensuring their departments operate with integrity and efficiency. The IFPCA Spring Seminar delivers the tools, knowledge, and peer connection needed to fulfill that responsibility.

The 2026 program covers key topics including legal updates in fire and police civil service law, best practices for merit-based hiring and promotion, handling disciplinary hearings, board governance, and recent changes in Illinois public safety statutes. Sessions are led by attorneys, seasoned commissioners, and statewide policy experts.

Beyond the classroom content, the seminar offers meaningful networking time with peers from across Illinois — from Chicago suburbs to rural downstate departments. These connections often prove invaluable when navigating complex personnel or legal challenges unique to Illinois public safety governance.

The Bloomington-Normal Marriott provides an excellent, accessible venue in the heart of Illinois with convenient parking and comfortable conference facilities. Whether you're a newly appointed commissioner or a veteran board member refreshing your knowledge, the IFPCA Spring Seminar is the premier training event for your role.

Registration is available through the IFPCA website. Space is limited — early registration is encouraged.
