FDIC International is one of the largest fire service training events in the world, and every spring it fills downtown Indianapolis with firefighters from across the country and beyond. Career, volunteer and combination departments all send crews to learn, train and see what is new.
The week combines classroom sessions taught by experienced fire officers with hands on training that puts firefighters through real evolutions. The exhibit floor stretches across the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium, with apparatus, tools, PPE and outdoor demonstrations from a long list of companies.
The 2027 theme is honoring tradition while looking ahead, and that fits the feel of the event. Veterans of the job share hard earned lessons, and younger firefighters get exposure to ideas and equipment they may not see at home.
For many departments, FDIC is where they find the training, gear and contacts that shape the next year. It is also a reunion for a lot of firefighters who come back every April.
