National Police Week 2026 is the nation's most solemn and powerful tribute to law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Held May 11–17, 2026 in Washington, D.C., with the centerpiece 38th Annual Candlelight Vigil taking place the evening of May 13 at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, this week draws tens of thousands of officers, family members, and supporters from across the United States and around the world.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. bears the names of over 22,000 officers who have given their lives in service to their communities. During National Police Week, the memorial becomes a pilgrimage site — a place where surviving family members, fellow officers, and grateful citizens come to grieve, honor, and remember.
The week's events include the Candlelight Vigil, a solemn evening ceremony that is simultaneously one of the most heart-wrenching and uplifting events in American public life. Officers in dress uniform carry candles alongside the families of the fallen, listening to the reading of newly added names and the words of speakers who understand the true cost of a life in blue.
Additional events throughout the week include the National Peace Officers' Memorial Service on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol, law enforcement memorial 5K and other fitness events, educational forums on officer safety and wellness, and reunion gatherings for officers from across the nation.
Organized by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, National Police Week is a must-attend for anyone who cares about the brave men and women who protect American communities. Registration for specific events is available at nleomf.org. Come to Washington in May and stand in honor of the fallen.
