National Veterans Creative Arts Festival 2026

  • Tuesday, June 9, 2026
  • Various times (June 9–14)
  • Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, Columbia, SC

The National Veterans Creative Arts Festival (NVCAF) is one of the Department of Veterans Affairs' most beloved and unique programs, bringing together veterans from across the country to celebrate the healing power of creative expression. The 2026 festival runs June 9–14 in Columbia, South Carolina, showcasing the extraordinary artistic talent of veterans through performing arts, fine arts, and multi-media competitions.

Open to veterans enrolled in VA healthcare, the NVCAF encompasses disciplines including visual art, writing, photography, dance, music, theater, and crafts. Veterans compete first at the local VA level, with top performers advancing to this national showcase — a six-day festival of performances, exhibitions, and celebrations that proves beyond any doubt that the warrior spirit is also a creative spirit.

Columbia, South Carolina provides a rich and supportive backdrop for this celebration, with its deep military heritage, vibrant arts community, and warm Southern hospitality. Festival events are free and open to the public, giving the community an extraordinary opportunity to experience world-class art created by those who have served the nation with distinction.

Beyond the competition, the NVCAF is a profoundly therapeutic experience. For many veterans, creative arts represent a pathway through trauma that traditional clinical approaches cannot always reach. The festival creates connections between veterans across generations, branches, and backgrounds — a community built on the shared language of artistic expression.

If you are a veteran interested in participating, contact your local VA medical center for information on local competitions. If you are a community member, come to Columbia in June and witness the remarkable creativity of America's veterans. This is art with a story — and every story matters.
