The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk in Bridgeport is based at Port 5 of the National Association of Naval Veterans on Brewster Street, giving this local race a strong connection to the veteran community.
The event honors Stephen Siller, the FDNY firefighter who strapped on his gear and ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, and gave his life saving others. Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome, and many families make it a yearly tradition.
Every registration helps the Tunnel to Towers Foundation pay off home mortgages for Gold Star and fallen first responder families and build accessible homes for catastrophically injured veterans.
If you live in Fairfield County, this is an easy way to spend a fall Saturday morning outdoors, remember the heroes of 9/11, and support the families who carry on after a loss.
